Gene Leverty is the principal of Leverty & Associates Law Chtd. Mr. Leverty works primarily in the areas of civil litigation, insurance regulation; and complex litigation. Mr. Leverty is licensed to practice in all Nevada and California state courts, as well as the United States District Court for the State of Nevada, the Central District of California, and the United States Supreme Court. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, in 1970, where he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta.
Gene Leverty began his legal career working as the Administrator on Nevada Environmental Protection from 1971 to 1972. Mr. Leverty was an Assistant Professor of Environmental Law at Sierra Nevada College in 1972, and of Business Law at Western Nevada Community College in 1973.
Gene Leverty was the Chief Deputy Insurance Commissioner for the State of Nevada from 1972-1979. In 1979, he joined the California law firm of Miller & Daar as a partner, with offices in Beverly Hills, San Francisco, Milwaukee, and Seattle. Miller & Daar was a highly specialized insurance law firm with the principals being a former California Insurance Commissioner, California Chief Deputy Insurance Commissioner, former Executive Director of the NAIC, and a former Chief Counsel of the California Insurance Department. For reasons then unique to Nevada, Miller & Daar could only operate in U.S. Federal Courts. Accordingly, in 1979, Mr. Leverty established the Nevada law firm of Leverty & Associates Law Chtd. Mr. Leverty left Miller & Daar in 1989 and has thereafter practiced exclusively with Leverty & Associates Law Chtd.
Gene Leverty is a member of the Conference of Insurance Counsel, and the Federation of Regulatory Counsel. Mr. Leverty was a member of the State Bar of Nevada Insurance Standing Committee from 1977-1991, and was the Chairman of that committee from 1977-1980. He was also a Chairman of the State Bar of Nevada's Lawyer Referral Committee from 1979-1991, and is currently a member of the Client Security Fund (1992-present). The State Bar of Nevada on May 31, 1991, granted him the Award of Special Recognition for Unselfish Dedication to the State Bar of Nevada.
Gene Leverty's impressive legal work has not gone unnoticed, as he has recieved a number of accolades, which include his being rated AV by Martindale Hubbell (the highest rating), his membership in the Million Dollar Advocate Forum, his being named to the 1994-1995 National Directory of Who's Who in Executives, Professionals and the Marquis Who's Who in American Law.
Gene Leverty not only provides legal education seminars in insurance in both California and Nevada (Insurance Law in California, July 31, 2002 (pdf), and Insurance Law in Coverage-Nevada, September 2004 (pdf)) but takes every opportunity to expand his insurance and class action knowledge by attending seminars.
Gene Leverty is married to Gretchen Roberts Leverty, and together they have six children. Courtney Leverty practices law in San Diego, Calif. and Las Vegas, NV. Joanna Roberts is a Deputy Public Defender in Reno, NV. Pat Leverty is a member of Leverty & Associates. Dan Roberts is a stock broker with RBC Dain Rauscher in Reno, NV. Carolyn Roberts is pursuing a masters degree. Tyler Leverty, PhD. is an Assistant Professor of Finance (specializing in Risk Management & Insurance) at The University of Iowa, Henry B. Tipple College of Business. Gene and Gretchen love to travel and spend time with their children (in that order).
